Editor's review

From being a solution for text information and document sharing, Internet capabilities have today increased to such a level where you can effectively do video as well as audio chatting. Video chats are widely used to communicate with family, colleagues, overseas and remote meetings via VoIP or other chat engines and services without ever moving from your place if you have a video chatting device in front of you. For effective conduction of video communications, it is essentially required that apart from bandwidth, your local software application for video chat should be efficient enough so that it can manage smooth communication with lower bandwidths and handles available connection strength to maximum. Webcam SDK for Windows and Linux v.4.0 is a software development kit which provides a component for video chats.

Webcam SDK for Windows and Linux is a shareware program that has an application component for the developer to integrate in video conferencing applications. The powerful component provides seamless multi user video conferencing to all the users with low and high bandwidth connections. No matter what the speed of your connection is, you will experience crystal clear sound and amazing video smoothness with this application in your video conferencing sessions with efficiency in utilization of available bandwidth. You can easily view all the users in the current session in a tree like structure where each node is a separate channel or room facilitating complete chatting, instant messaging and file sharing. This SDK has both a client as well as a server application where server application implements the entire authentication and tracks the clients connected to the session.

Webcam SDK for Windows and Linux v.4.0 gets a score of four and a half rating points on the scale of three and a half rating points on the scale of five for its feature rich and efficient functionality with respect to video conferencing.

Publisher's description

The Webcam SDK contains a high performance VoIP and Video conferencing client capable of delivering crystal clear sound and video capturing even for both low and high-bandwidth users. Webcam users are arranged in a tree-structure where each node is a room/channel where users can talk, see Users, send instant messages and share files.
Examples of such applications could be Internet phones, conferencing tools, surveillance systems, e-Learning systems, or any other type of application where audio and video transmission between networked clients is an essential part of the application.
The Webcam SDK consists of both a client and a server. The Webcam server is a standalone application which provides user authentication and keeps track of connected clients. It can operate in both LAN or WAN (Internet) environments. Each server instance is capable of serving 1000 simultaneous clients. A Webcam client can connect to the server and can from there interact with other clients. The client is wrapped in a DLL file (.so on Linux) which enables developers to add the following features to their application:
* Multiple active real time audio and video streams
* Instant text messaging
* File sharing
* Tree structure for grouping clients
* Audio capture supported by DirectSound and WinMM
* Video capture supported by DirectShow
* CELT and Speex audio codecs for VoIP supporting both high and low bandwidth usage
* Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and 3D-sound positioning
* Audio transmission using push-to-talk (PTT) and voice activation (VAD)
* Store all audio transmissions to either .wav or .mp3 format
* Video codec supporting variable (VBR) and constant (CBR) bitrate as well as configurable quality
* User account system for server authentication
* Secure data transmission using TLS and BlowFish encryption (Secure Edition only)and much more
